perhaps between

perhaps there is little space between us--but perhaps the space is cavernous and wide, so that we greet our sorrows from separate sides of the sea. this is one of the burdens of the fall of humanity--that we often do not see each other, that we often don't know how to see, that we do not ask our Maker how to see. and so the space remains, lingering, forcing us to walk paths separately that we could traverse in company.

Is the distance between us the memory?
Is the distance between us the words that we speak or cannot?
Is the silence between us the distance--
Or simply the absence of sound?

The closer we become, the more we can see.
But I remember, remember--the wave of proximity deceives.
The closeness we feel may pass with the season--
We must be close on our knees.

Oh, the ease with which we speak of these things,
The ease with which we pray,
The speed with which time passes so quickly,
We find that we're running away,
Running away.

Is the distance between us increasing as we read the memory,
The memory?
Forgiveness is trusting the Lord to redeem the memory.

The closer we become, the more we can see.
We must be close on our knees.
On our knees--

This is one of my favorites out of the songs I've heard you sing - thanks for sharing it.

And welcome to the blogging world!
