what if we have lost the luster from our eyes?
the shadows lengthen.
the shadows lengthen,
and how do we know the sun will rise again?

we trust you, O Lord, O Maker of the sun--
you walk with us the path of darkness and of light.
if the sun, O if it never rises,
the constancy of you remains--
the shadows lengthen, you remain.

perhaps the sun we seek is not the sun at all.
and as its shadows lengthen,
you remain.
